A Passion for Helping People
It is truly an honor and blessing to have the privilege to care for my patients. I recognize it takes a great deal of trust, for many people, to place their oral health and smile in my hands. That’s why I strive to establish a connection with each patient, based on open and honest communication.
I want every person to feel comfortable telling me about their goals, as well as any fears they might have. I will listen, without judgment, and work with them to find a care approach they are comfortable with.
I take being a dentist very seriously, because of the levels of trust and responsibility involved. I want to make a positive, lasting difference in the lives of each of my patients: helping them to maintain their teeth for a lifetime, and ensuring they have a confident, beautiful, and healthy smile.
I’m most passionate about educating my patients about the advancements that make dental visits easier, quicker, and painless. There are many techniques and materials that weren’t available even ten years ago, and those have improved the patient experience. I love sharing that with people.
Education and Continuing Education
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, North Carolina State University
- Doctorate of Dental Surgery, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
Each year I take many hours of continuing dental education. This ensures I remain current with ongoing changes in the field and am able to offer my patients access to the best care options. I have focused a lot on implant dentistry. Other courses have included cosmetic dentistry, root canal therapy, Invisalign training, and complex restorative treatement. I also maintain the following certifications:
- Basic Life Support(CPR)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support(PALS)
- American Dental Association
- Academy of General Dentistry
- North Carolina Dental Society
- Raleigh / Wake County Dental Society
In the Community
I’m involved with my local church and its outreach efforts. Over the past couple years I’ve ministered to unwed mothers, prisoners, orphans, and local elementary schools.
Additionally, I’m the part-time staff dentist for the Samaritan Health Center at the Durham Rescue Mission. There I provide basic dental care, two to three days a month, to patients who cannot afford regular dental treatment. I also volunteer my time with other dental clinics, including Wake Smiles, Baptist Men’s Bus, and Missions of Mercy.
Outside the Office
I grew up right here in Wendell and now live in Zebulon, where my parents and in-laws reside. My wife Lindsay and I have been married since 2009. We have 2 lovely young daughters, Caroline Grace and Ainsley Rae, as well as a rambunctious Brittany Spaniel named Tucker.
When not working, I’m usually spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy staying fit through working out, running, and swimming. I’m an avid reader, who can sometimes be found gardening and tackling yard projects.
Dr. Dillon Atwood is one of two board certified dentist anesthesiologists in North Carolina, and is a Diplomate of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology He studied at Davidson College and attended the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry before completing his postgraduate training in Anesthesiology at Lutheran Medical Center in New York City. During that time he practiced pediatric anesthesia in Arizona and special care anesthesia at Helen Hayes Hospital in New York. He works with Wendell Family Dentistry to provide in-office general anesthesia and sedation services to our patients. These new services help us to provide any level of anesthetic care that our patients need, while putting patient safety and comfort first.
I like building relationships with people during their visits. Everyone has their own stories to share, and I enjoy hearing them. Those conversations create a bond and we often become friends. I’m new to both the dental field and our practice, having become part of our team in 2014. In addition to assisting our doctors when needed, I spend a lot of time interacting with patients. I schedule their visits and handle insurance and personal payments, too.
I live in the Corinth Holder Community with my husband Ricky, daughters Jordan and Morgan, and granddaughter Kamdyn. I enjoy spending my free time with my girls, riding motorcycles with Ricky, and going to the beach.
It has been so exciting to join Dr. Brantley’s staff. I have enjoyed learning so much about the dental world and meeting new patients everyday. My goal is to be intentional and helpful during each interaction. I am originally from Georgia; I moved to Wake Forest with my wonderful husband Grayson in 2015 so that he could pursue his Masters degree at Southeastern Seminary. I enjoy long coffee dates with friends, cheering on the Clemson Tigers, exploring new places with my guy, and lots of snuggles from my puppy girl Maple, who I may overeagerly show you pictures of even if you don’t ask.
I love this season of life with my little family and I am so grateful that The Lord has brought me here.
I spend my days helping people and having wonderful conversations at the same time. What could be better? It’s enjoyable to teach patient’s about their specific dental health concerns and work with them to find the changes they can make to improve their smile. While I clean teeth, take dental X-rays, and check for oral cancer, I focus on home care processes.
By helping someone understand why it’s important to keep their mouth healthy, and giving them the knowledge to do so, they’ll have a happy, beautiful smile for years to come! I began working in the field in 1985 and started with Dr. Labusohr in 1997. I still look forward to coming to work every day, because of our patients and their smiles.

When turning 16, I was quoted in my local newspaper as saying I wanted to be a dental hygienist. I knew then and have never doubted since that it was the right career path for me. I love what I do.
I worked front desk to assisting where needed prior to graduating with my dental hygiene degree in 2003. I worked in Wendell as hygienist for more than 10 years before my career path took me to Raleigh for a couple years. I learned a lot of valuable information and technology, but always missed the people of Wendell. We are members of Wendell Baptist Church and active in BSF. I kept hearing about a new dentist in Wendell, that brought the technology of Raleigh to a warm inviting atmosphere in Wendell. Everything fell in place for me to become part of Dr. Brantley's vision, which each team member believes in. We truly love our time together and with our patients.
